Who is behind this site
DNS Benchmark Pro is built and maintained by Genext Information Systems, an independent software studio that designs lightweight, privacy-respecting utilities for everyday internet users. Our background is in hands-on IT support and systems work — the kind of role where you spend years actually diagnosing slow connections, misbehaving routers, and flaky name resolution for real people, not just reading about it.
That day-to-day experience is what led to this tool. We kept watching people blame their internet provider or their hardware for sluggish browsing when the real culprit was a slow or overloaded DNS resolver — something most users never think to check. Existing DNS benchmarks were either desktop programs that needed installing, were aimed at network engineers, or quietly assumed everyone lives in the United States. We wanted something anyone could open in a browser, run in a few seconds, and act on immediately, wherever in the world they happen to be.
What we actually do
When you run a benchmark, your browser sends a series of timed DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) requests to 35+ public resolvers — names you'll recognize like Cloudflare, Google Public DNS, Quad9, OpenDNS, AdGuard, Mullvad and Control D. We discard a warm-up request and the slowest outlier, then calculate three things for each provider:
- Average latency — the typical round-trip response time, in milliseconds. Lower is faster.
- Jitter — how consistent those response times are. Lower means more stable.
- An overall score out of 100 — a weighted blend of speed (70%) and consistency (30%), normalized across every resolver that responded.
The result is a ranked list tailored to where you are and how your network behaves, plus copy-paste setup steps for Windows and macOS. Because the test runs entirely in your browser, the numbers reflect your real connection rather than some distant data-center average.
Our commitment to independence
We are not owned by, sponsored by, or affiliated with any of the DNS providers we test. We do not accept payment from resolver operators to rank them higher, and no provider can buy its way to the top of your results. The ranking you see is produced purely by the measurements taken from your own connection. Where a resolver offers privacy or content-filtering features, we label them plainly so you can weigh speed against the trade-offs that matter to you.
How we keep the tool free
Running and maintaining a free public tool isn't free for us, so DNS Benchmark Pro is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. Ads only load after you grant consent through our cookie banner, and they never influence the benchmark results or rankings in any way. Accuracy and honesty about limits
We believe a tool is only useful if it's honest about what it can and can't tell you. A browser-based DoH benchmark gives excellent practical guidance, but it is not identical to a native operating-system DNS query, and results naturally vary between runs, times of day, and networks.
